I have been thinking about this a lot lately!
I think because I have been asked by so many people "what kind of parent coach are you", what they want to know is do I teach "gentle" parenting or "authoritative" parenting, what is my style?
My whole life and even with this I don't feel I have ever fit into a category. I am artistic and play sports. I love alone time and enjoy social settings. I shop at Walmart and love designer purses! I love to see both sides of a situation and play devils advocate!
My style has always been and is now, uniquely ME. If I had to categorize it I would say "YES, AND". I don't fit into any labels out there, and I am totally ok with that!
I don't like or believe in labels. I really encourage parents not to label their children under any circumstances and encourage them to figure out what is under that need and let their child figure out who they are.
I believe in setting boundaries AND making sure your child feels seen and heard.
I believe in parents being strong leaders of their families AND letting children have say in family decisions.
I believe in letting kids fail and make mistakes AND I believe kids need our support and parents to believe them no matter what.
I believe that my family and my kids come first AND I need to model taking care of my own needs.
I believe in living in the moment and honoring where you are at this present time AND working on being the best version of yourself!
I believe in BALANCE, I believe in "YES, AND"!
I believe that no matter what as adults, teachers, educators and therapist our job is teach humans better skills! I believe that everyone is doing the best they can with the skills they have right now AND we can all learn new skills to better ourselves! I believe we are put her on this planet together to help and support each other as we try and navigate our own journey of living AND being the best version of ourselves!
I feel our society is so caught up in labeling everything and everyone. Yes I believe there is room for a diagnosis, but that is a conversation for another day:)
My parent coaching style is not one size fits all, it is based on you and your unique family needs!
My answer to what type of parent coach am I would be "I don't know, and I am ok with that!"
I don't need to put myself in a category to help you or your family. I used to try and figure out what style I was or where I belonged, now I am absolutely ok not belonging in any category and just being me, knowing that I have the skills, experience and desire to support and help families!
