My favorite toys!

Often parents ask "what toys" .... and that all depends on the goals and where your child is in development.

Here are some of my favorite toys during a therapy session for kids working on cause and effect and fine motor grasping patterns as well as a controlled release:

1.  Blanket:  a blanket is a great tool for peek a boo, it helps with language development, mimicking, motor skills and object permeance.

2.      A simple pop up toy:  these are one of my favorite toys because it holds their attention typically for a longer period of time, it works on fine motor skills and motor planning on demand, it is a independent activity or easily made into reciprocal play or a language based activity.

( this is from Target it is Fisher Price)

3.  Piggy bank toy:  Again a simple toy that works on fine motor skills of grasping and controlled release.  This is another great activity that can be both independent and a socially engaged activity...working on language, anticipating and engagement.

4.  pop beads:  this is a simple toy (I have even bought them in stores such as CVS ) that works on motor skills and gradation of force (how much do I need to push or pull).  This is another toy that can be independent or made into a game that works on language and engagement.

5.  Spinney Again Stacker...kids love this stacker... working on motor skills in a fun new way!

6.  Shape sorter that can grow with cognitive skills:

A basic one or the picnic basket by LEAP Frog

so at first we are just working on putting shapes in an open container then matching and sorting...

This is just a few of my favorites ....
